Release the Kraken! Last month, Community for Youth was spotlighted in-game through a partnership between Starbucks and Seattle Kraken, Seattle’s Professional Ice Hockey team.

The Community Impact partnership between Starbucks and Seattle Kraken seeks to strengthen and celebrate the Seattle community, including the in-game spotlighting of local nonprofit organizations through the Community Stars program. Community for Youth was selected to be featured during the New York Islanders @ Seattle Kraken game on Tuesday, February 22!

Over 60 CfY students, mentors, alumni, staff members, and supporters came together in the stands to watch longtime mentor Hyun Choi be recognized with a video and jersey ceremony on behalf of Community for Youth.

Hyun Choi and her mentee, Mireya Fuentes, were paired in 2017 during Mireya’s sophomore year. Hyun and Mireya went on to form a special relationship resulting in growth and opportunities for both mentor and mentee. Today, their connection remains strong, with Hyun still offering guidance and friendship to Mireya at every turn!

Watching Hyun and Mireya’s story be shared during a Seattle Kraken game alongside our community members was an unforgettable experience, and we are deeply grateful for this opportunity!

CfY would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Starbucks for investing in the Seattle community and spotlighting our organization, as well as Hyun Choi and Mireya Fuentes for graciously sharing their story and representing our programming.

CfY would also like to thank the students, mentors, alumni, and staff who came out to support CfY during this momentous occasion.

Thank you for being valuable members of our community!
